Sand Martin from last year.
The colony I have been working for years. and which we dug the cliff face for originally, had at least 500 pairs last year.
I went last evening and still not a single bird.! This time last year some had young.
Any ideas ? It was probably the biggest colony in the county.

Well, we saw our first Barn Swallow fly over the garden today, I think they all turned back when they saw the pouring rain, its a rather strange year I think, hopefully it will all settle down and we get back to normal...
Great image BTW, and yes, the sand is that colour..... ;-)
We had our first swallows in 21st March, a record early date, but the local sand martins only turned up a couple of days ago, so there is still hope, John. It is a strange year (but then I say that every year )

Cracking image JR, lovely warmth in the picture from the sand. Haven't seen any sand martins yet this year which is very unusual.
