Does anyone know of a monopod that will go down to about 20 cms.
(Mine at lowest is about 45cms.)
I know could get a cheapie (it would be anyway) and get the hacksaw out but then it wouldn't work at head height.
Cheers

Hi John,

The lowest I know of is the Gitzo GM5561T, but apart from not being cheap (about £275), they are 41.5cm at shortest - not much better than you have at the moment.

Perhaps the hacksaw is the best option?

Gorrilapod, or beanbag would be more that sort of height perhaps?

Tried them both but not real good on grass for flowers. It would mean carting more stuff around too and also would still need the full height at times.
Cheers

I'll make one on a short stick.

How about a d-i-y version John - find a forked stick (like a catapult one) and use it as a rest for the monopod when it's laid down - or make some sort of brace with a couple of legs - kind of of like the 'old' style machine gun leg rests. Then if you've a ball-head on top of the monopod, you should still be able to move the camera around a bit so it was pointing horizontal. Wouldn't take much extra baggage room either.

Brilliant. Why didn't I -------
Like the second idea with the two swinging legs. It was the extra baggage I was concerned about ! I used a machine gun in the army so it will bring back happy memories
Cheers
Great.

Developing this theme - if you have a metal monopod how about using the larger "ultrapod" with a 1/4whit. tapped thread in your monopod just below the ballhead mount? The Ultrapod is nylon with a small integral ballhead and takes up next to no room in a camera bag
