Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers.
Male in with food and female leaving nest. Done from hide originally then from vehicle. Very confiding birds. Only found on nest this year so things are down a bit. Always difficult because of light conditions as you can see with this one. Light from the back left so a problem with high lighted leaves. Very high bits softened. My son found this so giving dad a run for his dough. I don't normally put nest shots on but with woodies there is no "gardening" required and as this was close to apublic path there was no problem. I would still advise research and caution.
Large crop as lens racked out to get more depth of field for both birds.

This one is a bit special John, one of Britains most elusive species and you don't just get one you get the pair!!!

I was only thinking this morning that this is a species you never see posted. Agree with David, this is a special image.

Yes John, great to have both in one shot. I never saw a woodie nest in use before and this year I find 4 GSW nests. The Blacks and Greens still evade me. :toast:

Thanks all.
Put this on the Avian and some noticed a green cast. No one has mentioned it on this one ! Strange.

As I said - green leaves, sun through leaves - woodland habitat under canopy., Should be some green somewhere I would have thought.
