Interesting subject to photograph and I love the composition. It also has pleasing bokeh and depth of field, though this might benefit from a little more sharpening or placing the camera on a tripod. I might also suggest using a polarizer to help cut the bright glare from the surface of the leaves for your next attempt. Thanks for posting!

I also like the comp on the Howard. I agree with Josh about using a tripod and adding some sharpening, but for me, I don't usually like using a polarizer on stuff like this. Instead, I think using white cloth on a reflector to diffuse the light works a lot better (at least for me) and really controls the light much better.

A tripod would definitely have been better, but the ground terrain made it impossible to get the comp with the tripod I had. A polarizer wouldn't have worked anyway; the sun's angle wasn't right for a polarizer to do any good. Thus, not having two of me (a clone to hold the diffuser), I just had to make the best of a less than desirable situation. Besides, one of the visually interesting things to me about these leaves was their very high gloss, which will soon be lost as they turn green.
