I'm looking for suggestions on locations to take photos in the Jackson Hole area. I'll be staying there for two nights just outside town.

I don't have any recommendations beyond the obvious, but Schwabacher Landing really is worth visiting. Such a phenomenal place. If you go for sunrise, make sure to get there like a half hour before the prime time as space is limited.

Be sure to stop by the Tetons visitor center to pick up a copy of the photographer's guide to the Tetons, a foldable map-type guide. Can't remember the exact name, but it's so worth the ~$12.

You didn't mention what subject matter you wanted to photograph, but I'll suggest the National Elk Refuge just outside of town. I was there in February for a few days and the highlight of the trip was a short drive down a smooth dirt road on the east side of the Refuge. In a little over a mile we saw herds of bighorn sheep scrambling around on rock cliffs;, a couple coyotes chasing the bighorn around; eagles, elk, and a lone black wolf howling for about 20 minutes only 100 yards off the road. If you stop by the Refuge's Visitors Center on the edge of town they can tell you where the wildlife is and they also offer some ranger guided tours as well.

I'd suggest you pick up a copy of Photographer's Guide to Yellowstone and the Tetons by Joseph Lange. It's one of the first things I pack when I'm headed for the Tetons. There are details on all the iconic locations, (Oxbow Bend, Schwabacher's Landing, etc.) as well as some lesser known areas like String Lake and The Old Patriarch tree. Bears and wolves are where you find them. Drive around looking for critters and you'll certainly encounter a few "bear jams" or "moose jams" or "whatever jams." Good luck and enjoy the parks.

All great suggestions. Make sure you don't forget the old Moulton barns on Mormon Row.

Thank you everyone for your great suggestions! I have a detailed map of the area and have made lots of notes on your suggestions. It's sounding like I need to spend more time there than I planned. I'll be sure to share any images that are worth sharing when I get back. Thanks again for all of your help.
