I figure ill post this as a cautionary tale. Was storm chasing in SW OK yesterday--stayed south cause i intended to catch the eclipse in TX today (now im missing it, cloudy here...) As i was pulling out of a gas station heading south on 183 in Clinton OK, i got hit on my drivers side by a car headed north. Split my head open and busted my finger. Was put in the ambulance while golfball hail fell on me. Spent the night at Clinton hospital and they stapled my head but i need to find an orthopedist for my finger. Im stuck in a hotel in clinton while i figure out how im getting out of here and if my car is repairable. This really sucks, i waited all year for my annual vacation and this is how it starts and ends. I have one hand now so i think it will be a while before im back in photo action--so if im not posting much--that's why! :frown:

Glad you're alive, STan! Of course, your first mistake was going to Oklahoma. Good luck on your impending surgery to get your finger back in action, and take it easy for awhile with that head! Is it your right hand or left? And, which finger?

I'm sorry to hear about the accident and the demise of your vacation. But the really important thing is you are alive. Hope you have a speedy recovery and are back shooting soon.

So sorry to hear this! Sounds like it could have been much worse though. Take care an heal fast.

OMG, Stan!! Glad you are alive, it definitely could have been much worse, especially when getting hit on the driver's side. It does suck this happened on your vacation, but hopefully you'll be out of there soon. You'll be back out there shooting soon, I'm sure. Take care of yourself.

Holy crap, Stan! Sorry to hear that you're hurt, but on the other hand, you're still amongst us, so not as bad as it could have been.
Having injured my neck, shoulder and knee in the last couple of years, I've developed a good relationship with an orthopedics group in Colorado Springs. If you need a recommendation, drop me a line.
Get well soon!

Glad you made it out alive Stan! Really sorry it happened at all, of course, but here's to a speedy recovery. We'll miss seeing your work in the meantime: give us a treat from your archives when you can!

Scarey and be sure to be aware of any delayed symptoms with your head injury...I'm sure the Dr told you about that. So sorry this happened to you Stan, keep us informed of your progress. According to the news tonight Pueblo is getting a doozy of a thunderstorm.

Glad you're O.K. (for the most part), Stan. It could've been much worse. It is, of course, a lousy break, for your car, your head, your finger, and your vacation. Let's hope that, with the passage of time, this will be one of those times that makes the really great times in the future so much easier to appreciate. God speed.

Stan, I am at least glad to hear you are around after an accident like that. but I totally understand your frustration. Hope you're not in too much pain. I had an auto accident over 4 years ago that put me in hard place physically. I am still working to get back to where I was. I hope your challenge is not as harsh and wish you all the best in recovery. Hope we hear from you sooner than you think, we would be all the better to see more work from you.

Stan, that's terrible! We're so sorry. I hope you are able to roll with the punch and let your body heal. It may be hard to accept right now but you will live to shoot another tornado. Last summer I had a head injury and fractured my eye socket. It took me out of commission for many weeks, during the peak wildflower time. I shot almost nothing last summer. I was pretty miserable until I eventually accepted what had happened and its implications for all of my plans. I don't like having my plans messed with and for me that was worse than the physical injury. I can imagine it is probably the same for you. Hang in there. You'll heal and get back out there.

Thanks Erik, i thought of your injury immediately--and you're right, it's best to accept and move on and not dwell on it.
I appreciate all the encouraging words, thanks guys!

Gee whiz, Stan, glad it wasn't worse! If there's anything I can do to help, you have my number.

Take care Stan, I hope you're up and around soon. Thankfully its sounds like your injuries will heal up in time -- hopefully the car as well.

hang in there Stan! You will get through it and you will shoot and play again!
I am actually headed to Oklahoma next week to drop off work for a show.

Give a holler if you need any assistance.

I can't believe that a mere accident can keep such a prodigious man as yourself down for long.
Here's hoping the fret finger heals fast!
And if you need anything at all, don't hesitate to ask.......Todd.

Hey Todd, can you send me a keg of IPA?
Posted by Jack Garrett on May 21, 2012 at 11:07 PM
Wow, I just got back to town and read this....hope you are feeling better Stan. If there is anything you need, let us know and hopefully someone can help you out.

I'm so sorry to hear of your incident Stan. It seems to be a year for chase accidents, another chaser Mike Bates was struck at an intersection by a truck that did not stop at the stop sign. And I am sure you know of death of chaser Andy Gabrielson earlier this winter in a car accident, not chase related. Hope you heal up well.

Sorry to hear about this, Stan. Glad you're mostly unbroken and hope you recover fast!

Just remember you know have a built-in excuse for anything prior that you can't or prefer not to remember! Get well soon.

OMG - glad to know that you are recovering .. get well soon.
Posted by Jimmy Gekas on May 23, 2012 at 1:12 PM
Wow....glad you are basically ok. Super bummed about your finger, but it will heal up just fine. I saw that xray and was like, what happened. Now I know. Your car? Well, that can easily be fixed or replaced. I can attest to that. Hope you have a speedy recovery.

Yikes Stan, I JUST saw this post, been so busy I haven't been on for a while. Wow-WEE, are we glad you're still alive and well! It's been 9 days since your accident, how is the healing going, both head and hand?
