Pheasant in Phield
Caught this chap enjoying his breakfast on the way home after the LCD on my 20D packed up (luckily it still had a month to run on the warranty and all repaired now!). Almost like the film days - I had to wait to see if I had got the exposure right! They usually run like the clappers when the car stops and the window starts to move - but this one just gave me the hard stare before ambling off.

Canon 20D 300mm F4LUIS
ISO 200 -0.67 exposure comp
f6.3 1/200th

Hi Dennis

Phabulous Pheasant shot. Great colours and the pose and eye contact with the bird is spot on. I like the way the grass leads from out focus in the foreground, through the sharp area around the bird, and then drifts back out of focus into the background.

Nothing like a pleasant pheasant, nice shot, like the space. With a 300mm you certainly need to be close, had a walk with one today and personally have made a mental note that it's a long macro lens for flutterbies and for flight shots of sea birds such as ganets.
Much respect.

A most attractive and colourful image.I like how you've caught him just as he's looking in your direction and the beak full of grass is a bonus. :toast:

Tis very nice, always difficult to compose in profile with the length of that tail and \I think you have done well here.
