Hey, I might be able to meet you guys up at Roan this weekend. If I can force myself out of bed, I'd like to be on the balds for sunrise. That means getting up at like 3 AM on a Saturday! Landscape photographers need to have our heads examined!!! Sounds like we might be able to find some blooms at some elevation that weekend. I can only go on Saturday or Monday.

Maybe a SENP gathering????

Anyone have an update on Jane Bald or Grassy Ridge Bald?

I am trying to decide whether to go ahead this Friday (June 1) or push it off another week (June 8)?

Harold, Tom and I were up there last Saturday. The rhodies are still about two weeks form peak on the balds. Some were just opening down at the road. There was one azalea off in the distance that looked like it was opening. We've had some warm sunny weather this weekend and rain is forecast for this week which should encourage them to open up. This Friday may still be a little early and you may want to go June 8. I'm planning to go Saturday June 9.

Thanks Richard.

I'm pushing it out until June 8-10. I'll be camping up on Grassy Ridge. Hope to see you there.

The Three Amigos...Saturday May 26th 2012 (300yrds from Carvers Gap on Trail to Bald)

Thanks Richard for the Update... !
I have been swimming in the deep end of the Pool at work and home since returning from our family camping trip at Roan over the Holiday weekend.
Like Richard said the Balds should really be popping the Weekend of June 8yh,9th &10th . If history prevails the Gardens will be 7 - 10 days later. I would not hesitate at all to visit Carvers Gap this weekend for fence row shots. This area should be very near peak and one would miss the crowds for sure. Especially if you went this Sunday, Monday or Tuesday.

All three of us met at Carvers Gap 5:15am for some sunrise shots. Unlucky for us there was not much to shoot because of the heavy haze. We still had a great time talking and discussing different cropping and shooting techniques. We decided to move on up to the gardens later in the morning to see if there might by chance be any fog. Well, no fog but we did catch a few sunstars along the cloudland trail. I will post a few examples of my results.
Maybe Richhard and Thomas could post some of there shots also..???

Great time was had by all. We decided that we need to have another outing together soon so stay posted and come join us next time!

Roan should Be FANTASTIC starting June 6th for at least 2-3 weeks.

One More...

Nice group shot. We look more awake than I remember being that morning.

I posted one in the landscape gallery
http://www.naturephotographers.net/imagecritique/ic.cgi?a=vp&pr=191909&CGISESSID=369ae5b3c299550e5e3d64a06183143a&u=22129
I've since edited this one to add some mid-tone contrast at Mark Pelton's suggestion and it looks much sharper. I may repost if I get some time.

I also posted another one from that trip in the macro gallery
http://www.naturephotographers.net/imagecritique/ic.cgi?a=vp&pr=191911&CGISESSID=369ae5b3c299550e5e3d64a06183143a&u=22583

We need some more SENP to join us on the next trip!
