This sunset at Tom McCall Preserve near Rowena, Oregon is probably one of my best, if I can say so! Conditions were just what landscape photographers dream of for images of lots of colorful flowers backlit by the sun. There was next to no wind and the Columbia Gorge Broad-leaf Lupine and the Northwestern Balsamroot were at peak bloom. See my previous post, "Sunrise Tom McCall Preserve," for another example of these perfect conditions.
Fantastic shot, Phil! I love both of them- the sunrise and this one. Completely different quality of light and each image is equally engaging. What a great bloom this year!
Thank you Catherine and John for your wonderful comments. I would agree with Catherine that the bloom this year at Columbia Hills and here at Tom McCall was quite splendid this year. Much better conditions leading up to the bloom than the lengthy wet and cool 2011 Spring.
I took the two images blended here on May 13, 2012 at 7:58:17 PM. As one might expect, if you have ever done blending of luminosity masks in Photoshop, a fair amount of hand blending/luminosity painting was required to move the image from the LR4 state to the anticipated previsualization of the final published image. I just love how much more we can do with digital images to bring them to the previsualized state!
