Bryce Starshot with re-post
This has to be my best star shots to date. We went deep into the hoodoos at Bryce Canyon to get night shots of the stars and milky way. One of the guys in our group went down below to light the lower canyon and we asked him to stay in the shot so we could get his silhouette. Another one of our group put light on the upper walls so they would have some light but yet still be dark enough to capture the fantastic star scene in front of us...the result was spectacular in my opinion. Thanks to Jason Hatfield for help with the exposure settings on this and for painting the walls with light.

Wow, spectacular indeed! It looks like a National Geographic shot, exploring some wild canyons in central america or something like that.

A friend told me to add a half stop of exposure to the whole image..thoughts??

This is superb Jack, and the half stop exposure addition was good advice. I would mask that exposure boost from the few really bright spots. I just love this one!
Nice seeing you again in Moab and I'm so pleased you got an image so unique from Bryce.

Just the overall visual scale of that image is impressive. I, too, like the 1/2 stop addition. A definite wall-hanger! What were some of the technical specs, particulary exposure time?

Ken, shot with 11-16 Tokina at f2.8/ ISO 1000/ 30 Seconds with light painting for the first 20 seconds of the total exposure. Don't recommend using a bright light for painting.

Spectacular is an excellent assessment! 1/2 stop is a nice boost to an already wonderful image.

Outstanding, Jack, and the 2nd image is definitely better.

Awesome shot Jack! Definitely need to get to Bryce Canyon this summer...too much to photograph and not enough time to get it all in. :)

I like the repost better. Fantastic shot, Jack! Definitely worth posting in Man and Nature with a good chance at a WP imo.

Two thumbs up on that brighter version! Excellent comp and adding a human for scale really takes this up an extra notch!

Really cool, Jack! I sometimes feel like I seldom see anything different from Bryce, but this certainly qualifies. The surreal light definitely works in this context, and the extra half-stop is good I think, though I do kind of like the extra mystery in the first version.

Thanks for the tech specs, Jack. I have the same lens for my Nikon, but haven't used it extensively yet. So, I was very glad to see your results with that lens!

Howdy Howdy Jack! This is too cool!!! I love the mysterious feel to this one. For me, the 1st version hits the spot. Definately one to hang on the wall :)

Whoa! That is very cool and unique. I do like the re-posted version better.

It was nice to put your face with your name this weekend

Looks great Jack, it was definitely worth the trip to Bryce and little sleep for that shot.
