Working through some of my images from last season I came across this one and I thought it had potential. It's a two image stitch, 6 image blend (3 top, 3 bot.)
I'm pushing the saturation (cool colors) levels in this one, tell me if it seems too rich.
Hi Kane,
I think the image looks fine; not too much, not too little. If anything, it might need a little more light on the right side (trees might be a bit too dark, but that could be my monitor).
The colors look slightly oversaturated on my monitor, but I'm not on a very good monitor, so I don't quite trust what I see. Parts of the sky appear darker and more contrasty than the reflected sky, giving it a bit of an unnatural HDR feel. The trees are also a bit slanted on the edges, an easy fix with "Lens Correction." With a little more tweaking, I think you'd have a keeper.
Colors look good to me, aside from the slight distortion it looks about right. A cool shot, probably cant really stand alone but would be nice as part of an RMNP series.
Colors look good to me too, Kane, though I see what Grant's saying about the luminosity and contrast. It is a neat image, reminds of some of the old-school work in Sierra Club books and whatnot.
Clean, bright and beautiful. What attracts me to this image is the dappled lighting, the square format and that boulder front and center (go figure...).
I think that Grant's monitor must be slightly off key, as the reflected sky appears slightly darker than the actual sky itself on my calibrated monitor, and I see no 'HDR' type effects at all.
My lone bit of advice would be to lighten up the reflected sky in the water in the lower left corner. I know the shadow is causing that effect, but it puts a visual weight there that throws things slightly off balance.
Like Jackson, this also reminds me of the simple and beautiful Sierra Club images of old. I like this one a lot, Kane!
Excellent feedback; I think Grant nailed this one down for me. I reworked the sky by adding a notch or two of luminance to the clouds on the right side of the image to match the clouds in the water. That was a nice catch that I didn't notice in the original. As far as the lens correction recommendation, I'm gonna keep the image as is. Applying lens correction would be require me to rework the lengthy blending process and stitching and I just don't see the slight issue as a deal breaker for me.
John, another nice find, and that's an easy fix too. Yep, got that boulder pinpointed directly in the center of the image on purpose! Kinda strange but I think it works.
Personally, this image has me captivated. The blown-up version is very cool, especially that skinny tree that extends up into the sky. There’s just something about these calm, brisk/cool alpine scenes that bring me a sense of peacefulness. I’ll keep searching these scenes out for as long as I’m alive.
The changes are just right, Kane. Looks great to me!
And yeah, that boulder sure does work there. Keep searching, amigo. The world needs more images like this one.
Best of all, you're offering free prints ($0.00) !
I don't know how I missed this one. I do like the repost better and think you made some good improvement. I like the centered rock also as it keeps the eye moving through the center of the scene. The very tops of the trees seem a little darker than the bottoms. I don't know if you used a grad, but probably not since it's a multi-shot blend. But, they look that way on my dinosaur of a monitor. Not one of your top shots, hard to match those, but I get the peaceful, contemplative feeling you connected with. So. you've translated your emotional connection very well. I'll take one of those free prints John mentioned, too.
