Its been a long time since I picked up and used my long lens, I just do not have time at present to indulge in photography, and I am slightly in awe of the images currently being posted, but I have been watching the setting sun and moon over the last few nights and thought I would try out a 2x converter I bought last year and have not realy used.
Techs Oly E-3, 300 F2.8, EC-20, tripod, iso 200, Manual mode 1/15s at F8, 10s prefire/antishake. Processed jpeg from camera, cropped 2 passes of unsharp pass applied to both images 0.5,50%,2.
I think there is a smigeon of movement by using 1/15s, but I thought it holds up reasonably well considering the shutter speed and effective 1200mm FOV.
nicely done Mike. I can't decide if I would prefer to see the whole of the moon (or the virtual moon if you know what I mean) but there's some nice detail in those craters.
I was wondering about the crop here, the lit moon face is on the third, to include the whole virtual disk would have either pushed the lit face too far right, or made a smaller overall image, I opted for the classic thirds positioning.
I wish I had done this two nights ago there was a much deeper tinge to the moon as it was lying in the sunset dust band, but that may have resulted in some lower resolution.

An excellent image again the larger version enhances still further.
