Hi, planning a trip to Mt. Rainier and Long Beach in August. We were looking for a nice place to stay in the Long Beach area. Any experience or advice? (I'm happy camping with my canon 5D and tripod), but my lovely wife requires nicer accommodations. Thanks in advance for your help. I know I can count on fellow photographers for good ideas.

Hi, Jeff. Long Beach isn't ritzy; one of the nicest places out there is probably the Shelburne. Shelburne Country Inn
(360) 642-2442, (800) INN-1896
4415 Pacific Way
Seaview, WA 98644

It's a bed and breakfast inn between the towns of Long Beach and Ilwaco. Make reservations now! A good web site to check for all things related to Long Beach is: http://nwcoast.com/city/bb.asp?longbeachpeninsula

And for a real treat in dining, well worth the $$$$, must go to The Ark in Oysterville!

Hopefully, more of our members will offer their favorites, as well.

Have a great time, and send us some photos! :wavey:

Jeff, I've tried to send a reply tdhree times and each time I goofed. Access funbeach.com. Lots of info.

The Long Beach peninsula and surrounding areas have an unending supply of wonderful photo opportunities. I have been visiting here for about 70 years and never tire of being here. (I just happened to be here for Memorial Day.) Attached is a photo I took a couple days ago-typical of ddays end on the ocean side. Jim Gavin

Associated with the Shelburne is the China Beach Retreat. For the price of a nice hotel room, my wife and I rented the Audubon House for a few days last summer. Very nice, more secluded and very quiet. Bonus is that you can do some photography from the deck or hot tub while having a cocktail. Here's a quicky iPhone snapshot...

Thanks Rick, I'll check on the retreat. Amazing clarity on the iPhone pic, (still amazes me how clear the phone cams are these days.)
