Castle Rock badlands, Kansas
Heres a few I took Sunday afternoon. First time vistor here and I was very impressed. I really did not know what I was getting into here as it was a last minute decision to go. After seeing all the Utah photos I wanted to find some rocks of my own  . A sunrise vist is going to be in store for next time as these face to the east for any one wanting to vist. Thanks for looking and suggestions are always welcome.
Chris
P.S. Glad to see all the activity on the forum

I dont see near as many Jack rabbits around any more. I can remember when I was a kid they were ever where out in western Kansas. Hope these little critters can make a come back. This little guy kept a watchful eye on us but didn't ever seem to go to far away.

Nice set of images. The sunburst is well done with little loss of foreground.
The Jack Rabbit spot on with the framing and position of the composition.

I remember lots of jack rabbits, too. Even hunting for pheasants in w. Kansas I've not seen any of recent times.

Nice photo. I need to go to the 'rock' area sometime...

PS: the thunderhead added a lot to the first photo.

That cloud in the first one is sweet! And the sunburst really makes the photo in two. BTW, all the jackrabbits are down in Big Bend National Park in Texas..ha!

Another really nice series. That sunburst really pops!

Thanks everyone, Had a hard time with the sunburst trying to keep the flares down, but this is one of my better ones.

Nice set of images Chris, all good in their own right. I'm not sure too many of the ranchers/farmers in the area would like to see the jack rabbit population come back. In mass they can do some damage to the vegetation.

Wayne,
Wow didn't know about the problem they used to have with these. Pretty destructive little critters after I googled them, was actually pretty interesting reading on how they tried to control the population. They said they would catch them and tryed to ship them off to other places until they discovered how much damage they could do. Hopefully it never gets that bad again, but i dont't want to see them gone altogether.

It looks like you had a great visit. The storm cell in the first photo really adds to the image. I like the sunburst and view through the rocks in the second. Great detail in the jackrabbit. I heard stories from my history teacher in high school of the "rabbit roundups" they used to do, probably in the 60s. I think he was talking from experience :).
