Hi,

One of my favourite birds, one that is probably responsible for rekindling my interest in wildlife photography and prompted the purchase of my first DSLR, which has become something of a nemesis for me....

Once a numerous visitor to the north Kent marshes there has been a steep decline in their recorded numbers over recent years so I was pleased when this one decided to perform for me on Sunday morning, and I finally have a new set of images of these attractice birds. I find these to be something of an exposure challenge as I find yellow to be a problem colour for Canon sensors, it seems to become hot very easily.

All the best

Well you have exposed this one spot on.Lovely bird with a nice pose,I like the way its standing on a tuft of grass,Some might say its a bit central but works for me the way it is,Very nice indeed :toast:

Very handsome bird. The little tuft of grass it is on makes a much better shot than if it had been on level grass. The OOF brown areas echo its wing colouring, and makes the yellow stand out even more. Great shot!

Hi Phil such a cool shot I only have a few shots of them on slide film nothing as good as this thou, I missed the ones that we had locally a few days ago and am still kicking myself.

Phil, this is the best image I've seen on this forum for some time, especially considering the scarcity of the species. Very envious.

Edit: Yellows are a problem with film as well!

Hi Phil

It's all been said. Excellent image, great pose and composition. Technically perfect, only very minor niggle is the background is a bit busy for me, but this doesn't detract from a top quality shot.

:toast:

cheers

An inspiring shot Phil, well detailed & well controlled on the exposure :toast:

Would love to see more of these around, as you said they used to be numberous.

Lovely Phil - you got the exposure just right - it is dead easy to burn out the yellow - most of mine are washed out.
