High Park Fire from Fort Collins
Sunset shot of the High Park Fire outside Fort Collins, taken at Terry Lake.
Although it is always sad to know folks are losing their homes, this fire is particularly personal. A good friend of mine lives up Rist Canyon. He and his kids were evacuated late this afternoon. If the fire continues to the north east he will probably lose his home. Hoping that cool front will come in and shift winds tonight!

Best of luck to your friend. It seems the wind shift happen, as we're smelling that fire in Colorado Springs this morning. I hope it saved their home.

It's a sad thought of what is happening up there right now... I see quite a wind outside---hope it's in the right direction.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone living near wildfires this season.
Having said that, you captured an extraordinary scene here. I really like the rays of light above the clouds!
Great job holding the exposure in check, too. Amazing how such devastation can yield a work such as this image.

Update: My friend still has a house according the best information they have so far. Unfortunately, the fire still rages.
On a postiive note, at least was able to get a little photo time in yesterday. Not today however, as the fire is much closer to my home base and the ash clouds are quite thick.
Considering the size and devastation so far, my thoughts go out to those losing their homes.

Fire always makes for powerful shots, but, yes, our thoughts are always with those losing everything but their lives. Unfortunately, I heard there was one woman who did lose her life.
