Good evening. I am considering purchasing the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for use with my Canon 60D and was wondering if anyone has experience with this combination or lens by itself.

I would be using the 1.4x II TC (NOT III) with the lens if that changes anyones thoughts on it.

Thank you for any & all assistance.

Well, yes and no. As a Nikon shooter I use their VR version with the latest 2.0TC and it is just about perfect. I am an ardent bird shooter and on the wing is even better.
This arrangement is not too heavy, focus is fast, and the reach with Nikon factor of 1.5 gives me a 210-600mm (or close to it) at 5.6 which works out well.
Once in a while, like at a rookery, where you don't need quite the 2.0TC I will switch to the 1.4TC
So as far as the 70-200mm F/2.8 VR type lens it is just great a great compo.
I have even used it for portraits on my D700 (sans the TC) and once on the beach (even managed to get birds in shot) without TC for shooting horses at sunrise.
hopes this helps a bit. Good luck

Hi Richard, I have that lens and I can't rave enough about it. When Canon said they improved the optics with version II, that was an understatement. The image quality approaches prime-like levels, the IS is almost inaudible and focus is FAST. I use it with a v2 (not 3) 2.0x TC and it still performs above and beyond expectation. It's heavy, expensive and worth every penny. The only con is the weight if you backpack, IMO.

Hi Richard, I agree with Paul 100% except, I don't have a TC, I use the lens by itself. It is brilliant, very HEAVY but, I love it.

This lens is my newest purchase and I love it. I use it with and without a 1.4 TC. I take it in my kayak and hand hold for bird images. It's heavy but I'm a girl and a Nana at that, and don't have trouble getting sharp images. Did I say "I love it"?

Canon has several different versions of 70-200mm (F4 vs F2.8, IS vs non-IS, version I vs Version II) and I have owned most of them. This one is much better than others in terms of sharpness. An Amazing lens. The only downside is its weight.

Good evening and thank you every one for your comments. So far no negative comments other then the weight. I am use to walking around with a 300 4.0 L lens, which is only slightly lighter then this lens. Again thank you.
