Looks to me like these are shot from the area around City Park. There are some balconies at the Museum that might work; otherwise, I'd look around Colorado Blvd., between 17th and 30th, and a few blocks east of there. I think Havana might be too far east, but not sure.

I can think of a few places, but I'm not sure you'll get exactly the same angle.

-Tower Rd. near DIA. Lots of good expansive views of the front range. You'd probably need a really long lens, though.

-Along the same lines, if you can get access, there are some really good views from atop the Adams County Landfill, just off Tower Rd. Seriously. I can get there for free on "free landfill day" for residents, but I don't know how it works otherwise.

-The other place I've seen good views of Mt. Evans is at the old Fitzsimons base, at Colfax and I-225. This is now a medical campus for University of Colorado. The original hospital building is still standing, and there is an observation deck on one of the upper floors. Not sure if it's still open, but it was open a few years ago when I was out there all the time for business.

- You could try some of the hospitals on 17th or 18th. They may have top levels you could get to. Or some of the parking garages. Not sure if they'll be high enough though. The parking garage between Kaiser Franklin and Kaiser Skyline is free, I think, and there may be decent views, but don't quote me on that.

Hmm I'm working a similar project here in the Springs for a buyer! I think the locations you were given so far are good! I used to be up in those areas when I was with FEDEX back in the day and remember being struck by the same skyline.

4th tee box of the City Park golf course. There's also a nice view from the Museum that includes the old boat house and lake.

Hey Darren I have been looking for the exact same setting and have spent some time driving around looking for a good location. Seems every time I find a good spot there's some thing in the way. I'm would be interested to know of any good spots you find.

Thanks

Brian

D:

My girlfriend lives 3 blocks from the City Park golf course so I've been around that area a bit... I believe that's where any number of photogs have taken shots of the city... usually sunrise. Or in the open grassy areas of the park. It's a little rougher neighborhood, so be careful if you are there before sunup. It's gotten better over the last few years, but...

You can walk right on the golf course off-hours (no fences, etc.). On-hours, somebody may cry... or you may catch a ball in the head... but... it's all in the line of duty...

Hey Darren, It's been a few years since I shot there but the 4th tee is the one closest to the intersection of Colorado Blvd and whatever street runs along the north side of the golf course. In the years since I last shot there the small trees may have changed the view so you may drive up west on the street on the north side of the course until you find a vantage point that suits you. Keep in mind, the farther you get from Colo Blvd the lower the viewpoint gets. The course is not fenced so you can park there along the street and walk to your shooting position. At sunrise this time of year, there are always some whackos that want the first tee time of the day but you shouldn't have to dodge too many golf balls. As always, remember they're paying to be there and you're not so act accordingly and all should be well.

Good luck and good shooting

It's been a while, but since we're mentioning golf courses, I seem to remember good views from the Park Hill Golf Course. It's just a little north of the City Park course, and on the east side of Colorado.

It looks to me like Mohlenkamp is shooting from the roof of the museum. Compare the angle of his shots to this shot - http://www.denver.org/pictures/ImageType1_39_DenverSkylineSummer.jpg The angle of the cash register would suggest to me that he's a bit south of the course, but not much. Unless there's another building in the area that I'm not considering, I think that's where you need to go to capture that view. Might be worth a shot trying to get access. Saturday morning should provide some ideal conditions.

Okay okay...Mohlenkamp is a friend from the days I worked at Camren. I'll call him this evening and assuming a) he's in town, and b) he's willing to divulge his location, I'll e-mail it to you, Darren.
