Weevil
Thanks for the comments on my last image.

This was taken a couple of weeks ago. I was looking for damselflies, but spotted this weevil perched on top of a reed.

Techs:
Nikon D300s
Tamron 90mm f2.8 Macro
Handheld
F8
1/800s
ISO 500

Excellent Oscar - you have managed to give a weevil a personality.

Excellent, thinking was good!

Excellent - simple and clean.

What sort of weevil is it though ? I've only seen brown ones, this looks metallic green ?

Thanks for the comments. Graham, I think this is a Pale Green Weevil (Polydrusus impressifrons).

I think this is great shot. I like the horizontal positioning, although personally, I would have placed the weevil slightly lower in the frame. If you are interested the species name is Phyllobius argentatus.

Very nice.... agree with Phil Shaw P. argentatus, there are a number of sites to help ID.

Thanks for the comments.

Phil and PhilH, I was wondering what made you think it was Phyllobius argentatus as opposed to Polydrusus impressifrons?

Thanks

Great picture Oscar. No nits from me! :toast: :toast: :toast:

I suspect its because of the antennae shape, the black band behind the eye and the more pronounced black band forward of the wing cases.

I'd be interested too, I'm very much a beginner in this!

Hi Oscar,

Accurate ID's of many coleoptera, particularly weevils, is very hard, if you have a closer view I will happily send it to one of our entomologists who in the course of time will give an accurate ID...
