I've recently had a trip to Sri Lanka fall through and am wondering where to go instead so thought I'd tap into the huge brain that is UKNP.

There must be dozens of photographers on this site with trips planned for the forthcoming summer and I want to know where you're going  .

I'm pretty clued up on UK destinations but am a little less knowledgable about international locations, i.e. where and when to go for 'X' especially during our summer months.

For the months June thru to September I have these options:
Madagascar - Lemur
Sumatra/Borneo - Orangs and other primates
Alaska & BC - brown/black bears, salmon run, bald eagles

Any ideas welcome...!

Hi Elliot

Just some suggestions, I haven't done any of them myself.....

Finland - brown bears in the woods
Norway - Sea Eagles from the boat

In this country I guess the best summer options are the seabird colonies such as the Farne Islands, Skomer, Handa, Bass Rock (if you can get on), Isle of May, etc. If I had the time I always fancied doing a tour around Northern England (Northumbria, Farnes) then up the coast via the Scottish seabird colonies then over to Orkney and Shetland, then round to Handa, then the Outer Hebrides..... Hmmm maybe next year......

cheers

Sean

Elliot

I would go for your number 2 - Orang's - as the other stuff is market saturated

Hi Ell
If you go the Orang way i would suggest Borneo,I have been to sumatra and as ive said before things there are extremly basic,Borneo is much better set up for Comfort/ luxury holidays also when at Sumatra you get orangs and thats basically it whereas Borneo you have a choice of orangs, proboscus monkeys,The Danum Valley for great night safaris and great beaches with turtles,
