Nikon D7000 105mm f2.8 Micro + TC14e ISO 160 1/250s at F13 handheld
Taken quite early in the morning on Mull. I had been watching SEO's and was returning to my car when I stumbled across this newly emerged marsh fritillary. I could'nt believe my luck when it landed on the head of the bog cotton and opened its wings! All C+C warmly welcomed.
Superb shot Nick ! Lat time I saw these was on the Gower in Wales. Used to be in the Forest here but were collected out.
Grand picture indeed. What detail ! Which make is the 105 mm ?
Cheers

Thanks JR. I am lucky in having the marsh frit here on the west coast of Scotland as I think it is one of our more beautiful butterflies. The lens is Nikons 105mm, very sharp & is capable of producing great images out of the box. I did have the Sigma 150mm and it was a superb lens but swapped it for the Nikon because of the VR facility which comes in handy when hand holding at slow shutter speeds.

Great image, even with VR you must be holding the lens very well.

Many, many thanks for your comments folks!
David, VR certainly helps you get more keepers and at the time was the main reason for swapping from the Sigma 150mm. Now it has OS I would imagine it will be a cracking lens to use.

An excellent piece of macro photography, Nick. The pattern and colours of the wings are just gorgeous
