Bluebottle (Calliphora vomitoria)
Nikon D7000 105mm f2.8 Macro ISO 160 1/60s at f14 flash SB-400 with diffuser, handheld using VR.

Taken this morning in the conservatory. The dog was staring at something and when I went to investigate it was this bluebottle feeding on an onion stem which was laid out to dry. The BG is a wallpanel. All C+C warmly welcomed.

I think the wall panel provides a good background, and the depth of field on the subject provides all the detail that could be wanted. Nice one, Nick.

Looks good to me, Nick. The BG is a very pleasant shade and gives great isolation to the fly, grat to see the mouth parts in action too.

Needs to be seen large. Excellent detail. My only very slight nit would be the fly is a tad central from top to bottom. I cannot make up my mind if I would trim a bit off the onion stem or a bit off the top. Probably would be the top as the stem does add context. Just a personal taste thing though and with the framing as it is, at least you have the options.

Superb detail Nick, although I think I agree about more contrast :toast: :toast:

Cracking photo Nick. I agree a tad more contrast and maybe a small lift in overall brightness too. Still a very detailed shot with those minor nits aside. :toast: :toast: :toast:

Shots like these make me want to buy a macro lens and give it a go ... cant comment on contrast on my lappy but as it appears to me looks pretty cool :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast:

nicely done Nick. It does look a little dark to me but great detail.
