I'm looking at renting a nikon 200-400mm lens for a vacation trip in October. Is there a good place to rent one? I saw some places online but I want some feedback from other photographers first since I've never rented before. Also, when you rent one, do they provide the brackets and such to attach to the tripod or do I have to buy that separate. Thanks all!

We've always rented gear from Glazers in Seattle when we're working on the west coast. Don't remember the name, but we've rented lighting equipment from a place in Denver, and I saw they had lenses. Great outfit to deal with on the lighting gear, so I have to extend the impression to other gear. I've also heard positive accounts of places in Salt Lake and Chicago, but not much help there either.

Christina, I have used borrowlenses.com several times. They mail the lens to you with good return information. They are packed very well and you use the same box for return. The web site is easy and they are competitively priced. I think I picked up their address from a similar post I made on here a few years ago.

I've used borrowlenses.com twice when my own lens croaked right before a trip - flawless from start to finish. They didn't even charge me for the lens cap that blew away! Reserve early, though, my bet is the 200-400 is in high demand.

I used lensrentals.com once and everything went just fine. I would use them again if the need arises. I think with any lens rental place, you would have to rent any tripod accessories that you need separately.

Borrowlenses.com hands down an excellent company to work with Christine. I borrowed a nikon 300 and 2x extender from them for 2 weeks and everything was perfect. You can talk to them and they will tell you if you need anything that doesn't come with the lens. The have available most accessories. I borrowed a rain shield for the lens too. Great company! Have fun! Blessings, Deb

Christine you dont say what you are going to use the lens for. if you are photographing form a car and not doing alot of backpacking you might want to try renting the 500 prime. better choice for wildlife you cant have to much lens . and buy the 1.4 converter you will need it down the road than you will have a great wildlife setup

Here's a vote for LensRentals.com - they are fabulous about customer service & getting the lens to you on time & in great shape. I'm sure others are good too, but they are the heat!

Another vote for BorrowLenses.com, they've always had excellent service and their selection is superb. Full disclosure, Borrow Lenses is one of the companies that 'sponsors' my Alaska Photo Tours business, but I don't receive a paycheck from them. They just give us discounts for my clients while on tour. I wouldn't accept a sponsorship from a company I don't fully believe in.
