Can't believe I did this but I was in a hurry and screwed a CP 77mm filter onto a 77mm UV Haze filter. Can't seem to get them apart. Any ideas before I take it to a camera shop?
I get sticky filters sometimes with an ND on a CP @ 77mm. Sometimes a slight side-to-side torque while you're trying to turn will get it to let go. You can also try putting a rubber band around one or both filters. That gives you a better grip. Finally, you can run some very hot water into a bowl and dip only the filter closest to the lens (with both filters off, of course) in the hot water for a minute or two and then try to unscrew the pair. The idea here is to use the heat to expand the outer threads without expanding the inner threads. Good luck.
my wife has a thin rubber pad that she uses to open jars with and i used it i was able to get a good grip on the filter with it and get them apart can probably get one at any home store
The rubber hanky type of jar lid opener works pretty well and is readily available. If other remedies fail, you can get a pair of filter wrenches. They're cheap. I think I got mine at B&H.

I use filter wrenches. I have a pair in both bags

Thanks for the advice. Will try the jar opener and mean while order the wrench.

Another tip, even though it sounds counter-intuitive. Sometimes my B+W CPL & a step-up ring will get stuck together. I've learned that the harder I grip, the more impossible it becomes to loosen them, because I'm actually pinching the cheaper metal on the step up ring against the threads of the B+W CPL. It may not work for you, but try gripping the filters lightly and gently unscrewing them, rather than trying brute force - it works for my situation & hopefully yours.

I throw them in the deep freeze for a few hours, then unscrew with a rubber jar thingee. Lubricate the threads with some teflon powder when you get them apart.
Here is a fool proof way to get filters that are stuck off or apart. The problem is that when you grip them you force them out of round and they will not unscrew. Just take an electrical cord like the one on your battery charger and wrap it around the stuck filter and rotate it while griping the ends of the cord near the filter which tightens the cord around the filter. It is a wonder!
Another vote for the thin rubber jar grabber/opener. I also carry one in my bag for use when my filters are being a little stubborn and won't unscrew. Readily available, cheap & light!
Thanks again for the advice. I purchased the Filter Wrenches. Best $4 spent. Had the filters apart in seconds. They will become a permanent part of my bag for sure.
