Many of the visitors to Bempton Cliffs were surprised to see me spending so much time photographing the sparrows. The reason, of course, is that they are tree sparrows and it was a species I had not previously photographed. The birds were very obliging and now I have a bulging folder full.
This bird was bathing right beside the footpath. It does rather remind me of a JR shot, and I have even cut the reflection off
Nice one David. Does look familiar With this weather, most of the stuff around here is bathing in mid air !
Last time I was at Bempton it wasn't a reserve !

Hi David, like the detail, especially the eye and the wet plumage works well. Good choice on the DOF too. Was this in the car park?

Hi Steve,
No it wasn't, although there were a lot of puddles like it in the car park at the time. It was in a puddle where the path from the visitor centre meets the cliff top path. On a warm, sunny day it was crawling with people, but still the sparrow came to bathe.
One of Bempton's must see birds, I have photographed these many times, but never in a puddle. I like the shot, David, different from the usual spug shots we see from here.

Yeh, agreed, gannets are boring, tree sparrows like this are cool.
