I am looking to buy Photoshop cs5 ,can anybody give me any help and advice regarding the version I need and and also the best place to buy this. I understand I need the full version which I think is around the £400 mark which would be ok. CS6 has been mentioned to me but I think this is nearer £600 which might be a bit expensive.
I use Windows 7.

Any help and suggestions on this would be very much appreciated.

Thanks Keith.

That's a whole chunk of money, Keith. Won't Lightroom 4 take care of your processing needs?

I find PSE9 does everything that I want, and Lightroom 4 has many fans, such as Andy. Are you sure CS5 is what you need and want? I have heard of several photographers who have bought it and then found they don't use most of the functions.

Thanks for this,i have tried a trial period on CS 5 which i like a lot but i would like the full program,i have been told by people that i respect a lot as photographers and who do rate CS 5 very highly that it would fit into what i am trying to do,i looked into ADOBE photoshop cs 5 extended and got to the point of ordering it from WEX only to be told by them that it would not work,i am trying to put this on to my computer with no other photoshop products on it ,if you can understand where i'm coming from.
Both a good colleague of mine and pc world said that i could do this only to be told by WEX that it would not work
As anybody any ideas on this?
David you are right with lightroom 4 which i have but i don't get on as well with it as i do with CS5,does PSE9 open raw files?
Andy i will e mail you if that is ok.
John i don't think that psp7 will open raw files.
Thanks again all.

Hi I would go with CS 6 or Lightroom that way you will get to use the newest version of ACR.

Phil.

Ps I use cs2 but I do have 3&5

Hi Keith, you already know my thoughts and I have just sent you a contact number to ring for correct advice to hopefully resolve your dilemma.let me know how you get on.

- Firstly have far to you want to process your images and to what degree?
- LR will help you catalogue your images, tag and process your RAWs and a lot more, but it can be a little frustrating at times unless you fully understand how it works
- CS5 is very simple, not as complicated, however you may not be able to do as much as you can in LR, 6 is a little quirky
- To have both is ideal, but again, how much time do you want to spend on processing & what budget do you have? That will dictate ultimately the direction.
Both Modules of processing is simple to work and likewise the architecture.

Good luck.

Hi Keith,

PSE9 certainly opens RAW files, although it may not support the latest cameras. You would need PSE10 for that. With my D300 PSE9 works fine in RAW. Hope that helps.

Hi Keith, think it depends whta you want to do, if you plan RAW conversion and a little fine tuning you could save teh money and opt for Elements ... I have equiped my mac with LR 4 and PS CS6 as i like to play (see my yawing b&w lion), CS6 or 5 is a lot more money if you plan to use its extra power money well spent :wavey:

Keith,

have you tried Capture NX? It does everything I need for my processing and is very simple to use with its colour control points.

Nick. :wavey:

I wouldn't bother with CS6 extended. Standard is fine for photography use. I'd expect CS5 to be unavailable now since CS6 is shipping, maybe that's what WEX were suggesting?
