Getting up close
Had severe wind problems for the past two weeks, prevailing SW.

Everything has been moving so all I could do was join them.

Meadow Grasshopper (Chorthippus parallelus)

Canon 350D Canon 180mm + MT-24EX (probably needs to be defused)
1/125 sec f/8.0 ISO 100 on a swinging tripod using two legs. Subject distance 8 inches or there about all happened so quick if I'm honest.

Kept jumping as they do.

Critique, Comment, Advice all most welcomed and thanks for looking.

Nice little groppy shot Barry. Still in the nymph stage so quite small I would bet. Flash shadows don't look too bad to me.
Maybe a vertical crop - I don't know.
Cheers

John

Very small as you say still in the nymph stage. I did in fact try the vertical crop and I wasn't sure.

Looks okay as is Barry :toast:

Yes your flash needs diffusing - Mr. Cole has a great 'diffusing flash' page on his website.

If you think this sub 1:1 has a few problems then wait until you try high mag shots - it's a whole different ball game.

First one for me too Barry, I've always found these difficult so congrats on the capture.

First shot is great Barry, very attractive grasshopper. Try peppermints for your wind problem.

First shot for me too. Let's hope this nicely marked animal is still around for you when he is a bit bigger.
