Stand Off ! + youngster
Jay - V - Woody
Almost the identical shot to the ones I did last year on almost the same date, from the garden hide. It all happened very quickly and the first batch were blurred to hell so I managed to get the speed up to 1000 ISO which helped a bit. Neither bird won in the end.

D7000 Sigma 100-300mm
1000ISO 200th sec @f9
Crop from landscape.
As usual couple of blurred blue tit bits taken out of back.
Cheers
Thanks for last comments.

Looks like an evenly matched pair of protagonists. Great behavioural shot, John.

an interesting combination John, well captured. The background competes slightly but I imagine your options are limited in that regard.

Aren't Jays big! Very unusual image JR and well captured. Would clone out the blob on the top of the Jays beak though.

Thanks
What is even more amazing- the only one young to survive out of 2 woodpecker nests even stood up to the jay and won !
