Took this this evening against a yellow rape field at the rear of our Centre, model used was Kaln, field not ours so I borrowed it, the blue sky was just passing but I do hope it stays for a few days.
I would be interested on what you all think regarding offering for sale these kind of shots to our customers, 9X6 prints?
D70 - Nikon 17-35mm AFS at 26mm (Handheld)
ISO 200, F6.3, 1/400sec Spot metered what ever that means lol.
Vince have you been on the magic mushrooms? What's the story here, Kaln tries farming? It's very striking and well executed but is it real? I guess younger visitors would like it, I'm not sure of the rest of the market.
Still what do I know, I shall watch with interest.
I came back to the Centre after a day sorting out picture frames & plastic wallets for images, I had on my mind a shot of Kaln looking out in the yellow rape field on a nice sunny evening. I let him out of his aviary & off we toddled off over the field for the photo session. He posed I grabbed the shot, we then had a swap around, I posed he ate the bl**dy camera.

Is the image real? Yes Tim the image is real & more or less full frame.
This shot is not my cup of tea, although technically there is nothing wrong with it but the composition just looks a bit 'odd' to me and Kaln looks like he is stood in front of a poster, which is due to the optical illusion caused by the contrast between the owl and the out of focus background (which seems a stop brighter than the owl as well).
However, that is my personal taste and no doubt some of your clients will like it, and buy it.
I think if you want to offer prints for sale you need to put together a portfolio of maybe 8 to 12 shots of Kaln (flying, stood on a post, close-up, head-on, etc) and then let your clients choose. Also offer a discount price of buying the complete set.
Now that would be a shot....Eagle Owl eating a camera ... now if you can get one of those, you'll probably have a few sales through the forum
While technically it looks OK, the shot you've posted doesn't work - the colour contrast is one thing, and the neat horizon split running through Kaln is another.
Probably for your customers "straight" nature shots - tree + owl etc; Bird + clean background; or bird in flight would work best. (PS While some of them look "cute", an Owl with chick legs hanging out of beak would probably not even appeal to Falconers ).
I'm afraid it is not my sort of thing either, the image looks OK but has an uncomfortable feel to it, the yellow in the bg is far too strong and draws the eye away from the main subject, plus the horizon is cutting through Kaln's neck.
I think this image would indeed work but I think the bg would need to look more natural for the bird and do agree that perhaps the 'straight' shots would be more marketable, perhaps you could try again with a woodland bg? (is that more natural for this species?)
