To say I had a great photo op last night would be a gross understatement. Clouds breaking all around me, sun setting into the soup. Problem was, what to shoot? Wildlife or landscapes? The two take such different camera settings, it was hard to know which to stick with. Ultimately I traded back and forth, and probably lost some good shots of each in the process. Oh freakin' well.
Very cool, Todd! The goats may not have the most dramatic poses, but they look at ease and natural, and are facing the camera. And they're in awesome light! Pretty unique image, I'd say. Have you considered a 4x5 crop? Probably too tight, but maybe worth a look.
I love this one! The warm skies alone or the goats without that warm sky would not have worked so well, but as a combination, they cannot be beat. This somehow reminds me of 'days of yore' or some such nonsense, but it does evoke an emotional response, so this is completely successful in my book.
Todd, this one is just magnificent! I feel totally connected with the lighting and composition. I like the landscape ratio here, without it, you lose the sudden drop-off which gives the image a bottomless feel.
BTW, the image looks light years better on my iPhone. Just clean and sharp, the way we intend to show our stuff.
Stephen, probably the only thing I miss about film is its ability to capture the disc of the sun, which is something I've struggled with in digital terms. (Take, for example, my near-total inability to get anything decent of our recent eclipse.) But in this case the thick fog helped me manage the extreme variables of the light.
I don't believe I've seen a sunset-goat combination before. What a great combo to get! Usually goats are associated with high altitudes and cool blue skies and bluish overall light. The warmth in this shot gives me a very relaxed vibe.
