D7000 105mm f2.8 + TC14e ISO 200 1/10s at f11 tripod, MLU, cable release.
Chimney Sweeper moth. Quite common in this area and as a day flying moth it is quite conspicuous as they are black. First time I have seen one sat perched with its wings held back as they are usually forward making them quite hard to get all in focus. All C+C warmly welcomed and many thanks for your comments on my Ringlet image.
Well -I have been chasing these little sods around for years and still not got what I want !!
Never seen them with wings shut either.. If its stops raining I,m going in the meadow tomorrow to do one !!
Good stuff

I'm wondering if these are the small dark moths that are flying around the grasses at my local patch. I've never managed a decent photo of them and I've never been able to ID them. Anyway, a nice shot Nick and a good to see a new subject

Many thanks for all your comments on my little Chimney Sweeper! Not sure but it might be the only truly black moth we have.
