Macro face off
Tis the Macro season and I'm making the best of it and enjoying every minute. In truth I'm trying to emulate what I see on here. Still trying to capture the faces of the subjects.

Canon 350D 108mm rocking on two tripod legs f/8 ISO 800 1/80sec RAW to Ltroom 4 resized to post no other tweaks.

It's big in frame it only has a tiny face refused to smile. I was after the face.

Critique, Comment Advice all helps and its appreciated.

Thanks for looking.

 A HEADS UP for Canon 1D3 if you get an error message "dirty contacts" it may well be a focusing problem and software. My 1D3 is just back after 30days. The focusing is working like never before no wonder I've struggled.

BIF with a nice balance between flower and subject, IMHO. I do find the BG slightly distracting, but not overtly so.

Barry
I think what you need to do with your aim in mind is to get in much closer.. The oof wings etc on this one distract from what you are attempting. If you go in closer the oof bits will be so much more oof it won't matter and will emphasise the sharp bit. I think with head shots on butts you need to be level with the face too.
Have i explained it OK ??
Cheers

Hi Barry,
JR has hit the nail on the head with his advice and the small copper is notoriously diificult to get sharp because it holds its wings out at an angle when feeding. You are on the right tracks please keep trying. The world of macro is very absorbing!

Hi Barry, I also agree with John's comments. You do need to be a bit closer which also means you will probably need to use the tripod on all 3 legs, which probably means your subject needs to be cool so not too flighty. Keep at it though, your shots are definitely showing promise.

Almost addictive I would suggest Nick with different approaches to different species. (keeps me off the streets and out of trouble.)

On the same page John early morning in oilskins down this way, will try to get closer.

Matt also trying the flash diffused and making progress in that direction thanks to your blog.

Good advice from John and Matt, and Nick is right about it being a very difficult species to get right. Keep at it is the only thing I can add.
