While on a recent backpack trip I had some time to kill during the day when the wind and harsh sunlight were my nemesis. So, my eyes turned to the forest floor and found these mushrooms. The tallest was about 1/2 inch.
This was a 33 image stack. Additionally, I did use Nik filters to enhance the image...tonal contrast, sunlight, and detail. Still not sure how I feel about shroom images, but they were interesting.
Any critiques are welcome.
The 'sunshine' filter helped pop those greens nicely. I was referring to the caps only which do look better with #2.
Agree with Bill re: the crop. This is a nice one!
Thanks for all the input! I still think the image lacks some pop, so I am going to work on it more.
Acually, looking at all the images I was able to remove 4 images so I was down to a mere 29 images on the last image posted.
Yep,I agree that is still way too many, particulary since there is no fine detail. However, since I was shooting so low to the ground, I couldn't seen the viewfinder very well. So, I just foucsed on the closest shroom and kept moving my focusing rail just a little bit between each shot. That way I knew I would capture all of them. Wearing glasses, I have to admit, I am having difficulty with my D7000 when it comes to focusing through an image like this. Thus, for now, I am overcompensating by snapping many images. I have a Hoodman and it helps in some situations, but it depends on how bright the lighting is. Being I can zoom in on live view and use the Hoodman, it's just something have to get used to.
No edible shrooms found on this trip. Even at 10,000 ft conditions were much drier than normal I suspect.
That's a cool shot, Ken. I think somewhere in between these two would be where the brightness might want to be. I've got to get a macro rail, and some software for stacking!

Pretty cool! I really don't have a problem with the original post.

This is a nice intimate scene for sure, but the 'sunlight' filter is a bit too strong on the caps for my taste.
So, I lowered the exposure on each image prior to stacking. Also removed the sunlight filter.
The second image has lost a bit of "sparkle".
With my monitor's brightness setting, I'd prefer an inbetween exposure.
Also, you cropped a bit off the top in the second image.
I prefer the first composition, with a bit more breathing space.
I'm also curious about the 33 image stack! Were you shooting at f1.4 ?
