I just returned from doing a private 3 day night photography workshop in Moab.

This looks really nice, I might tone down the rocks a bit so they are not overpowering. The definition of the milky way is great as well as the shooting star. Was there reports of northern lights here? It looks like you can see them in the sky with the greens and purples. Don't know if they are visible that far south?
First off, a spectacular image with definite WOW factor! Great alignment with the MWay! I do agree with Peter that the foreground rock and the arch itself is a bit too bright. I also think the sky is a bit too bright as well, maybe toning down the entire image will work better. Also the "View Larger Photo" is different than the one posted!
If you don't mind, what camera, lens and settings were used?
Both of the images are fairly unedited. I'll post the edited ones tonight. Nikon d800e, 14-24 mm set at 14, 30 seconds, 3200 ISO
BTW: I've discovered that the noise reduction in Camera Raw is really good for toning down the high ISO with minimal loss of detail. Much better than the Photoshop noise reduction under "Filter".
Really cool. Thanks for the tech info Bob. The alignment of the Milky Way of this image is perfect, great sharpness and I love the colors. I agree with the suggestions to tone down the light painting on Delicate Arch just a bit, but you're not too far off. The large image of Balanced Rock seems just a bit out of focus. Not sure if it is due to noise reduction, slightly too slow of a shutter speed or a slight miscalculation in lens focus. Beautiful framing and colors though!
