What beautiful eyes you have!
D7000 105mm f2.8 macro + TC14e iso 250 1/40s at f11 tripod.

Horse Fly, cleg or gad fly (Haematopota pulvialis). These little critters give a really nasty painful bite but they do have lovely eyes!

All C+C warmly welcomed.

Great stuff, Nick. Sounds like my neighbour's dog.  Superb detail in the large image. Good to see a different subject on here.

Lovely shot and very nicely photographed, the large is a must see as those eyes look amazing. Top shot, Nick :toast:

Hardly my favourite insect, in fact I hate them more than ticks. Beautiful eyes but a deadly bite and a pretty nasty injection too.

Had a recent encounter with one of those .. and not the photographic kind either! Large version is superb - great details and background.

The poor chap can't help its modus operandi.......it's just nature. As it happens one must have gotten into our bedroom and the missus had her leg out the covers and this thing had a real old feast, her leg was in a hell opf a mess next morning and never felt a thing. Their mouth parts are as sharp as surgeons scalpels, they have a anti-coagulant spit and the mouth is teeming with very nast germs.....but they do have nice eyes!

It's only the ladies that do the biting - nothings new!

I have several itchy bites from these in recent days but they do make great macro subjects. The light and detail are spot on here.
