A Silent Gathering
Something about this group of hoodoos in NE Arizona made me think of a classroom lecture or a political gathering.
The monsoonal weather pattern is going strong! Even though it's hotter than hell, the desert is a great place to be right now.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

I think the larger version looks a bit better.

And about a half hour before I took the previous image, we had a rainbow gathering.

John, that first one is out of this world, figuratively and literally.

2nd one is awesome as well, but I think that first one is draw dropping. Only nit, would be seems slanted but thats probably just the landscape.

The first looks like ET and spouse looking over their brood. I want to see this one in the Louisville National Juried Photography Show next year.

Wow. What Lance said. The second one is nice but the first one is great! If I were nit picking, I'd like to see the blue in the sky just a pinch brighter, but really that's just my taste. Great comp that keeps my eyes moving through the scene. Nice work. :toast:

Wow - out of the world. Totally agree on the first one :toast:

Both are outstanding! I would like to see the 1st one a bit brighter overall, the 2nd one has some real eye-popping color and I love how you were able to position both hoodoos with the rainbow. In that terrain it couldn't have been very easy in a short period of time. :toast: :toast:

The first image is the looker. Nice composition. My suggestions would be to open the shadows some and crop the sky right where the orange cloud meets the left edge as less sky would feature the hoodoos more. The sky has a very slight desert cyan that we spoke about. This is a real nice shot from up there.

Both are amazing images.

I really like the both, John. The first for it's subtlety, and second for it's "Pow." Excellent comps and development. :toast:

both shots are great, John, but that second is awesome! The dark sky really makes the rainbow pop.

The diffused light in the first is infectious. I want this image as my desktop background, lol. NE AZ my foot, this was taken on Mars! Huge winner John. :toast:

Sheesh, a rainbow? That is one fine image, John! Both are great, but that one eclipses the other for obvious reasons.

The rainbow is a prize winner for sure, John--when you can capitalize on a moment like that and flawlessly capture it...nuff said. I also love #1, has a great (and natural) 3d look to it. I think if you could raise the highlights just a bit more (probably a slight raise of the right half of the histogram...) it would be perfect! I hope to grab some monsoonal madness when i get a few days off next week.

I love both of these. You can't go wrong with rainbows and hoodoos.

I don't know what is more impressive, you standing the heat to get those images or the images themselves. Great images that I can't imagine could be improved.

Thanks so much for the kind words. I really appreciate it!
