Long afternoon
I went up to RMNP last week. I hadn't been up there forever, it seemed. Mostly I needed a Stensland fix. Both the artist and the art. I had lunch with Erik, and what a joy that was. What is it about that guy that makes you feel like smiling? Everyone he talked to while I was with him, began smiling immediately!

Well, anyway the title obviously refers to Longs Peak. It dominates the views from most of the park, so I found myself shooting it all afternoon from different vantage points and at different times. I wanted to be there in the afternoon to see what the clouds would do as they built up. I love how in the Summer the scene changes all around you from minute to minute with the different light.

The first one I converted to B&W because of the strong light and great clouds. I was thinking "Trouble Brewing" might be a good title.
I also put in a large version.

Comments and critiques always welcome, and thanks for looking,

Morris

Very nice series Morris. You were definitely right in B/W treatment on number 1!

Cool shots, Morris. The bw is super sweet. I totally agree with your smiling statement when around Erik. That guy has charm! :toast:

I echo your sentiments about Erik. One of the nicest guys and greatest photographers I've met.

All of these photos are excellent, though that first black and white image took my breath away. Clouds like that beg for monochrome treatment and you couldn't have made a better image at that time. I love how the sky takes center stage and Long's Peak is like a supporting cast member. Just awesome.

What a diverse collection for just an afternoon. I love the cloud/sky contrast in the B&W. #2 would be a close runner up. That little pond in the bottom right adds so much to section of the image. Very nice work.

Nice series of images, Morris. I really like the Black and White. I also agree with your comments on Erik. He is a wonderful person and an enormously talented photographer.

Hi Morris. Your first post is a beautiful image. Its a scene were all familiar with so the technical piece needs to be in place to impress the people. I'm impressed with the image, but not blown away, I think you understand. Two and three are comp strong but the right lighting just isn't there. Plus, the hazy sky really wipes out Longs Peak. Moving on to #4, comp strong but too hazy. Just not much you can do in PP with all that haze.

Of these, preference is for #1, and #4 for its sky.

Exactly what Doug said, but I liked them all because it's a pleasure viewing images from a place I never visit.
