Toroweap
About two weeks ago I headed to northern AZ for overnight trips to Toroweap and White Pocket with hopes of some "monsoony" goodness to spice things up a bit. I wasn't disappointed at either location so I thought I'd start by showing a couple of my efforts at Toroweap. I tried to get a little different from the standard comps when the wild monsoon light really took off. Shortly after this shot, a bolt of lightning way too close behind me put an end to my shooting and had me running for the vehicle!

The next morning, there was pretty much time for one composition before the light went flat so I stuck to a more conventional comp. It was nice of mother nature to bend the river right into the rising sun!!

I went to Toroweep a few months ago and was too chicken to get out where you need to be for the great shots. Obviously you were not and the results here are OUTSTANDING!!! That first one is my favorite with the dramatic shy and the tree as an anchor point. :toast: :toast:

Yeah Jack...that second shot was a bit outta my comfort level. I'm not a fan of heights and the fact that the wind was blowing pretty good had me more than a little nervous being on that ledge!

Great images Guy. That first one is absolutely a killer.

Outstanding images. Definitely paid off to be out in the storms. I was hoping to do something similar over the summer, but it's not as likely anymore. Well done.

Two of the finest images I've seen from Toroweap Guy, especially the first one!
I was a day late and a dollar short, but I'm sure glad that someone I know made it out there to witness this amazing scene!

Yeah, the first one is Wicked Good! Excellent pp to bring every nuance out of the clouds and the landscape, and the comp is just as excellent. The second is almost as beautiful. :toast:

Both shots are out if this world. That first one is gallery ready. To me, it's perfect. Thank you for inspiring me.

That first one is INCREDIBLE! It's nice to see more than just the canyon and river, I've never seen an image like it. The second one is only a lower case incredible.

Holy crap, Guy, both of these are amazing! :toast: Not just amazing but basically perfect in terms of composition, lighting, exposure, moment, processing, and everything that makes a stellar photograph. Both of these would gets oohs and aahs in any gallery. Fantastic work!!

Sweet image with #1! I photographed this same spot earlier this year, without the clouds. To say I'm envious is an understatement!

Thanks for sharing those to remarkable shots Guy: I like them both and think the first is a cut above anything I have seen from that area. Definitely gallery material and something I could hang on my walls.

Holy moley, now I'm regretting that I didn't go out there when I was at the North Rim this past week (wife deciding to come along on the trip changed the itinerary...go figure). Guess I'm gonna have to go back!
Those are two of the best shots I've seen from there yet! :toast:

Fantastic!!

Both are very beautiful images. I'd check the horizon on that first shot as it appears to have a bit of a counter-clockwise tilt/lean.

Both images have just a hint of overly greenish tint to me, but it was probably a consequence of the atmospheric conditions. Quite the display of clouds you witnessed. The perspective of the second image is eye-popping and vertigo-inducing. Way to brave the elements!
