To clean lens contacts in camera

This morning, repeatedly my camera wouldn't fire and I got this error message: "Communications between the camera and lens is faulty. Clean the lens contacts." Re-seating the lens resolved the issue temporarily. This happened with two different lenses, so I'm guessing it's the contacts in the camera body.

Next to an image of the very error message I'm getting, the manual says: "If there is a problem with the camera, an error message appears. Follow the instructions displayed."

Normally I would clean electrical contacts with a pencil eraser, but reluctant to do that in the camera because I'd rather not chance getting eraser crumbs on the sensor.

Any advice on cleaning lens contacts?

Try using a dry lens cleaning cloth. If that doesn't help you could put a drop of isopropyl alcohol on the cloth.

Hey Buck- I've always had success using a pencil eraser, being careful to face the lens mount downward so "crumbs" won't fall back on the mirror or sensor.

The pencil eraser trick works so well I carry one in my backpack. If you create crumbs, you are rubbing too hard.

I use DeoxiIt on a cotton swab to clean my lens and camera contacts. try it you will be suprised at all the crud -oxidized material on them

Thanks, everyone.

I cleaned the contacts with a pencil eraser dipped in alcohol. I was surprised at the dark markings left on the eraser. Now, if it worked I shouldn't have this issue again for quite a while.

While I had the body open, I cleaned the sensor too, just in case it got some dust while it was open. (It had hada dust speck at one edge that I was tired of removing digitally.)

Isn't it odd that the camera manufacturer has an error message that says clean the lens contacts, but gives zero instructions on the correct cleaning procedure.

Anyhow, thanks again.

P.S.
Thanks Myer for the tip about DeoxIT. But unfortunately I couldn't find a local vender.
