wide angle lens ?

Have been backpacking out west with my 5DMii and 24-105 which I really like but its to heavy for extended backpacking trips. Looking for suggestions for a fixed wide angle lens to use on this camera that is lighter and still has great clarity,dont really want a zoom . I got the 50mm 1.4 that is great but not wide enough for landscapes.I had the 17-40 but wasnt happy with the distortion or weight not much lighter than the 24-105.

I've been considering dumping all my DSLR gear and going with 4/3 or other mirrorless system. There just doesn't seem to be much advantage to using the heavy stuff any more. As far as that goes, my last camera purchase was a Leica and three lenses.
