zzzzzZAP!
We had one of the most spectacular lightning shows I've seen in ages here in C. Springs tonight. Here's a few Garden of the Gods lightning shots, in order taken.

#1: It was pouring when I took this one, tripod set up outside the driver's side window, me holding an umbrella over the camera from the driver's seat, and bolts crackling really, really close. After this shot, I grabbed the camera and closed up the windows, and wouldn't even reach out to get my tripod for 20 minutes, it was that freaky. This is actually one stroke of lightning that split into different branches, not several different ones caught in the span of the 30-second shot.

#2: Then it was into the Garden proper, with lightning crashing over the city to the east.

#3: THIS is the shot. Change of underwear not included.

#4: And finally, looking north through the Garden as another facet of the storm moved through. Many more shots, but this gives you the general sense of it all. I'm still hearing rumbles outside, too bad I need to get some sleep!

Great shots! I really like the light on the peaks from the lighting, very unique. Number 3 is unbelievable good.

Todd, the fact that you're here makes it a worthwhile gamble, but man... those are a little too close for comfort. Terrific images, but be careful out there, okay?

Tremendous series, atmospheric man! What's the light on the rocks in the first image? That really adds to the intrigue. :toast:

I didn't think you were back from your last trip yet but quite obviously, you were! That third one is the BOMB and the second ain't too shabby either! Have you ever had lightning shots on your calendar? I think you might need to include that one. Weather dude on TV says you'll probably get more of the same today.......

Those are just over the top. Be neat to do a slide show with a thunder soundtrack.

What makes these stand out over stock lightning images are the monoliths you captured under them and the touches of light on the two. Bravo!! :toast:

What John said. Great backdrops for the dramatic weather. #3 is shockingly good.

Freakin' awesome, dude! We've had a couple really good storms roll through the last couple of nights but I'm already in bed when they hit. #3 would definitely cause a #2 but it's an amazing photo. Glad to see someone making good use of the lightning!

The atmospherics you captured are truly amazing!

Awesome! I really like #1... would be tempted to go for a squarish crop on that one. #3 is epic.

#1 has my preference as I like the faint background ridges and the spotlighting on the camels along with the lightning. Maybe take a little off the right.
Second choice would be #2 without the city lights on the left.
Pretty nice light show.

I've never seen anything like these shots before (and how many photographers have shot GOG in the Springs?) These are a wonderful testament to your extraordinary abilities and dedication to this location Todd! Simply stunning imagery.
