Soggy White Pocket
This is part two of the northern AZ trip I took a couple of weeks ago. I've long wanted to visit the White Pocket after a good storm and photograph the reflection pools that inevitably build up. I wasn't disappointed on this evening. In fact, there were four waves of storms that passed through during the afternoon and evening hours. It was a bit of a nuisance being repeatedly chased back to the parking area by lightning and even hail, but fortunately the storms cleared out for the last hour or so before sunset, allowing me to get the shot above.

The next morning I got a little lucky. The monsoon pattern was quickly clearing out, but this small patch of clouds was still hanging around to catch the pre-morning light. After the sun rose, they quickly dissipated as well.

Both very nice, Guy, but the second is a stunner. Fantastic color in that sky. I have a shot from almost the same spot, but didn't get the sky that you did. Nice stuff.

Both amazing images and well composed. The second is simply surreal.

Great images Guy, particularly #1. It's such an astonishing place.

Well Done!! To have the reflection in the pools is fantastic. Been there but no water. Great timing with the monsoons.

Beautiful job rendering this unique area. I hope to spend some time up there soon- an acquaintance has told me he is building a cabin near Kanab. Looks like a great jumping off spot for adventures in that area.

Beautiful work Guy. I'll bet it was nice to have wet sand to drive in on!

Absolutely amazing images!

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

Richard - Yeah, that was the easiest drive back there that I've ever had. The downside was that we got so much rain that the parking lot flooded and was under water all evening making the camping aspect a bit problematic (since I was sleeping in my vehicle).

You had some nice conditions that made for some beautiful images.

The first is my fav. The reflection in the water adds so much to the image and the colors are striking. Nice work Guy!

Outstanding conditions captured so well! Your compositions are terrific and the 'development' is flawless.
You had one helluva lucky trip! Again, I'm glad that someone I know was there to record it.

The first one is a tutorial in "framing." Beautiful work on both photos!

Both are equally stunning, the water makes number one so unique that it is a visual delight and the sunset in two is equally gorgeous.
