We have only two prescribed fires planned for this fall -- the Matilda Prescribed Fire will take place (when conditions are right) around mid to late September near Emma Matilda Lake, and the Dry Quad Prescribed Fire (near Spread Creek on the BTNF) is scheduled for that same time frame. The BTNF also has plans for two prescribed fires south of Jackson -- one on Beaver Mountain and the other ?????.

Looks like its going to be another smoky fall in the Tetons. Emma Matilda Lake is only a few miles from Oxbow bend.

Hopefully they can start in mid (not late) Sept and finish quickly. Smoke settling at night from the Emma Matilda burn will likely make Oxbow unpleasant physically and photogenically.

Hi Doug,

I'm in Jackson, WY now and visited with Teton Park Rangers over the weekend about expected fall foliage. The consensus is the colors should be normal BUT probably 10 days to two weeks early - mid-September. But, it's only their guess.

There are gold trees elsewhere, which is where I'll be. The whole Oxbow icon shoot is a nightmare now and so overdone. I have no interest in crossing tripod legs with photographers occupying every opening in the sage.

I agree whole heartedly with Dave. That's probably the main reason I'll never make it to the Maroon Bells.

Dave, I was at Oxbow two falls ago and was surprised at being shoulder to shoulder and two deep. I had not been to the Tetons in 15 years before that. The number of photographers was unexpected. The next morning I was at Schwabacher Landing and there were only 4 there at sunrise.
