Making His Move
I thought I would share a bobcat encounter while I was walking one of the back trails in Sweetwater Wetlands. The bobcat was totally concentrating on something in the bushes and did not really pay any attention to me. I decided to keep my distance so I would not interfere. I slowly crossed the trail and knelt down for a better angle. Just as I raised my camera to focus on the bobcat he went into a crouching position then sprinted across the trail and leaped into the bushes. I fired off a burst of images and was lucky to get an entire sequence of the bobcat launching his attack. Nothing like being at the right place at the right time and having some of the items you have learned here at NPN finally come together.

Wonderful shots and great timing. When luck meets preparedness good things happen.

Terrific sequence! I've hoped to encounter a bobcat at Sweetwater on my infrequent visits there but have never had such luck.

Good stuff, Jim. Last time I was there we saw a Bobcat grab a Mallard right off of the shore. Could even be the same cat. They seem to have no regard for people that like to watch. Great series of photos. :toast:

Jim,

This is just excellent - very well done. While all the images are great, I do think you picked the best of the lot to post in the Wildlife Gallery...

Thanks for sharing this fantastic encounter!
