Siskins
Taken yesterday at the rebuilt pool. Not settled in yet but will get therein the end. Loads of Siskins but come on birders- are these young or moulting adults.?
Siskins almost certainly bred in the garden this year.

Never see these round here so can't answer your question, John, though someone will, I expect :-);-)

The nearest bird primary & secondary wing feathers look too prestine and still have the white fringing intact, an adult bird feather would be well abraded by now without the white edging - thats typically a fresh feather attribute - not too sure about the yellow wing bar flash as a significance, I think that's a male siskin thing in which case where is the black cap?.
The rear bird looks thinner and scruffier and has different wing flash markings
So putting these things together my guess is that the rear bird is a moulting female and the front bird a juvenile possibly male?

I'll have to take Mike's word on the plumage, but it is good to see the pool is back in action again.
