Hey crew.
Just want to see if anyone has their fall shooting plans yet. I basically want to know if there would be any interest at all for some carpool/rideshare options. As many of us are on a budget these days, I'm just trying to figure out the best solution for me to make it out to CO for fall. I am contemplating flying into Denver and renting a vehicle...it's getting to be expensive. I am up for any ideas. Sharing a trip with a Californian is probably not something you guys want to do and I undertand that.
Looking forward to the fall for sure and any responses this thread gets.
All the best,
Jimmy

If I was going to be heading out I'd let you split gas with me! Unfortunately, this fall I am going to be in Orlando during the last week in September. I might try in a couple days before and after, but my time is going to be short.

How's it going Jimmy? We'll be heading out to eat at True Grit for an extended weekend Oct. 4-8. We might take some pictures while down there also...
If you're in the area during that time frame let me know.

Like usual I get the last week of September off. I'm gonna wait and see what happens before I commit. I'll likely wait until the last second to pick a trip but it will probably involve the usual hot spots, Dallas Divide, Kebler, Raggeds.
I just saw on 9 news (weather piece) a photo of a section of the Blue River in Silverthorne, Co that was basically a week from peak color! I about fell down when I saw the image because it looked like a week 3 September image. So my early prediction based on that photo is this year will be EARLY. LIKE THE WILDFLOWER SEASON!! Also, while hiking in the Gore Range about two weeks ago, I saw yellow aspen leaves at 9,000-ft. Not a lot, but weird to see in mid Aug.
Jimmy, I'll be looking for you man. Just sit tight wait for the feedback and head on out when it feels right. If your trip falls into the last week of September , then know you have a connection with me. I'm all for splittin gas/ potential lodging and whatever.
If its an early year, I'll likely spend a few days in the Kebler Pass area. There's just too much beautiful terrain and beautiful free camping in that area for me to pass up. Kebler is a huge area and I have a pretty good handle on all that terrian so I'm not short on ideas.

General Fall Schedule
Labor Day weekend - North Rim with the crew from RMNP. Thanks Doug!
Early October - Initially Moab to meetup with offroad friends (and a stop at Bret's) then off to Aspen, the San Juans, or whereever the good fall reports take me. Love to start earlier but I got G2E tradeshow setup that late Sep weekend.
Mid October - Thinking Anza-Borrego desert down by San Diego and Salton Sea - 4x4 BorregoFest by OAUSA.net
Early November - Zion / Bryce / Southern Utah. Mostly Zion, basing out of Cable Mountain Lodge. Also I'm the webmaster for Vegas Valley 4 Wheelers vv4w.org Hump-N-Bump the weekend of Nov 1-3 after SEMA - Valley of Fire/Logandale area. Plenty of serious 4x4 shooting on aggressive scenery - makes the covers of the 4x4 rags.
February 2013 Presidents Day - Durango and Silverton Photo Special and Roundhouse shoot.
And if it actually snows more than a dusting, I'll be in Zion any good winter weekend.
If anyone is thinking Toroweap, White Pocket, or any of the lesser-visited Utah / Arizona slots, let me know if you need a travelling buddy/caravan.
Happy Fall Shooting!

This fall I'll be doing a little bit of traveling for work but I don't yet know exactly where or when. Makes it difficult to make plans but I'll probably be able to grab a weekend here and there. I spent some time in the Northwest in the spring and that just about depleted my discretionary funds and vacation days so I'm stuck pretty close to home. I like the aspens on LaVeta Pass and Cuchara Pass in southern CO and will probably head that way instead of Kebler this year. Crossing my fingers to get some business trips to some spiffy places.

I have a work thing in Steamboat from Oct 2-6, but I am afraid that will be late, based on what I've seen so far this year. We have lost our dog sitter so we are planning some long drives on the weekends in an attempt to get out, but nothing solid. I'll keep looking here to see if anything develops!

Well, can't help you with a ride out here, but let me know if you make it to the San Juans! You cannot borrow my truck though... LOL!!!!

As of now, plans include spending the last week of September (depending upon fall color reports) around Ridgeway. Two falls ago, the skies were rather cloudless, so am needing some redemption.
