Firmware update is availiable for the 7D at the USA Canon site.

Does anyone know what this up date contains, did my update..just courious..?

Is there any downside or risk to doing an update?

A friend that was here in Africa with me updated his 7D and now it freezes and won't turn off unless he removed the batteries. I have not yet updated mine, and maybe I won't for a while after seeing that.

I have not had that turning off issue since the update.

Camera never locked up with new firmware. FWIW, I used the EOS utility to upgrade as opposed to manually placing the file on the CF card.

no problems so far after updating. I used the EOS utility also to do the update. I hope to give it a real work out over the weekend.
