A couple weeks ago as we were full of smoky haze from the Pacific Northwest fires we headed east for sunrise hoping to see that fiery red sun we had seen from home the previous days. Halfway to Pawnee Buttes it started raining...hard. The much-needed rain washed away our haze and we were blessed with a beautiful sunrise nonetheless!
I do not process landscape images very often and it is still a painfully long process for me, so I am looking for any and all critique! I double processed this image to blend in the sky and foreground I saw when I was there. The rest is typical photoshop stuff (I now finally have CS5 and I do believe content aware has changed my life!).
Thanks for looking and I hope you all have a wonderful week!

I like it -- I haven't seen an image quite like this from Pawnee Buttes. As far as processing, it looks good to me, though I am also not an expert on that part.

This is really beautiful Anne and the processing looks spot on. The light and shadows look appropriate for the time of day. I took a similar shot years ago but yours looks way better! :toast:

This is simply lovely, Anne. I love the way the off center sun seems to align with the notch on the rim. The placement of the buttes make them a wonderful accent instead of front and center as one sees so often. I like that a lot!
'Bout the only processing note I can think of would be to slightly tone down the bright areas left of and above the sun. Best done using the 'SuperLights' luminosity mask in Tony Kuyper's wonderful set of Luminosity Mask actions. I tried it and it worked well and seamlessly. That is far from a major nit though, as this does look quite natural and is not overexposed at all.
You did a great job in composing, capturing and 'developing' this fine image! I would enter this in the 'Landscape' gallery without hesitation.

Thank you so much, everyone! Your feedback is so valuable to me. I will try the mask, John! I hadn't noticed that area...I was too focused on the right side to see the entire image. This is why this forum rocks! I may enter it in the landscape forum, but that place still intimidates me.

Composition is simply wonderful. Very creative image of the Buttes.
Anne, have you ever taken any full moon shots over the Buttes? Was thinking of heading there tomorrow to see what a slightly pass full moon would look like.

I agree with John's assessment--and i really like it, a pretty shot, Anne! I think a slight tweak of the highlights using the S&H tool would do the trick quite nicely. :wavey:

Thank you for the feedback! It means so much to me to hear that I am progressing with my landscapes!
Ken, I haven't been to the buttes for a full moon, but I think it would be beautiful! I hope it was a good evening out there.
