Help with bird ID?
A bird photographer, I am NOT! I know this isn't the greatest photo. But does anyone know what this guy is? American Goldfinch (best I could tell from Audubon's Guide)?

He/she was outside our kitchen window this evening. I remember seeing them before this time of year, but I'm pretty sure they're just migrating through.

Any thoughts appreciated!

American Goldfinch would be correct. Put out a thistle feeder and they make a great subject.

Hmm, I thought this was the male flapflagger jabberwocky. Lives in underground burrows and eats bologna. Mating song sounds like Neil Young singing show tunes.

But maybe George is right...

Ya, the bologna eating jabberwocky was a close second...

Very cool. That's some vibrant yellow! We've had Lesser Goldfinches at our feeder, but none of these guys/gals. Of course, we're not putting out any bologna, so there you go....

Scott - actually hese guys will nest in this area as well. But most of them are migrating through. Difficult birds to capture well.

NIce vibrant goldfinch. For anyone interested in bird photography, the best guide is the Sibley Field Guide. There is also a Sibley behavior guide. Both can be found used on amazon.com.
