...and had a week to drive to Tennessee and a week to drive back, what would you put on your list of places to see and photograph?
That's exactly what my wife and I are going to do. I have about 2.5 weeks to plan this thing and I am not at all sure of what routes I will take, what places I can go see that will give me the most bang for the buck considering time constraints, etc. IOTW, the plan is wide open at the moment.
So, give me some suggestions to get me moving on this plan...
Hmmmmm. OK. I would start by taking I-90 to Hwy. 20 through the Tetons and Yellowstone on the way there with a possible northern loop through Badlands or Southern loop through RMNP (though May is not the best month to visit there). Cruise through the plains because there couldn't be any more of nothing to see there and then hit GSMNP just before arriving in Tenn. Make sure you get at least a few days in GSM, as this is peak season to see it!
On the way back I would take I-40 back to New Mexico, turn north at Amarillo and visit Great Sand Dunes NM in Colorado and shoot the rockies north of Taos. I would then allow at least three days to drive through South Utah and visit Arches, Bryce and Zion parks before heading back North through Nevada and back to Oregon.
This is a very brief description/suggestion. If you want any more specific info about any of these places, let me know.
Actually, those are not bad route suggestions, Marc. Thanks!
I am thinking actually that I would take the southern route on the way east and come back on the northern route. We have family in several cities of Montana and I think we will visit on the way back.
As I have been thinking more about it, making sure Colorado is on our route is something I really would like as I haven't explored Colorado at all yet.
Lots of thinking to do... BTW, who says there's nothing to see in the plains? ...I might be able to get some good tornado shots...
